Common Types of Threaded Inserts

Hexagonal Inserts (NFPA, NFPC Types)
Hexagonal inserts are cold-pressed inserts available in aluminum and stainless steel. They provide strong, reusable threads and require no heat or ultrasonics to insert. The hexagonal "barb" construction allows for increased torque and pull-out values.

Blind Thread Inserts (IBA, IBB, IBC Types)
These inserts are made from stainless steel, brass, and aluminum and feature a blind end to protect the threads from plastic intrusion.

Self-Locking Blind Thread (IBLC Type)
These stainless steel inserts feature a deformed thread that locks the screw and resists vibration. The blind end protects the threads from plastic intrusion.

Through Thread (ITA, ITB, ITC Types)
Through thread inserts include a pilot diameter and undercut that allows plastic to flow into the groove, providing high pull-out resistance. These inserts are available in aluminum and brass.

Knurled Washers (STKA, STKB, STKC)
These threaded knurled washers are made from aluminum, brass and stainless steel and feature a uniform knurl diameter to reduce the risk of dents. They are available in a variety of lengths for use in injection molded components.

Tapered (IUA, IUB, IUC)
Tapered, through-threaded inserts in aluminum, brass and stainless steel are designed for use in tapered holes. Tapered mounting holes can be quickly and accurately aligned prior to installation.

Flanged (PFLA, PFLB)
Flanged head inserts are available in aluminum and brass and feature a press fit with strong, reusable threads. They are cold pressed and require no heat or ultrasonics for installation. Flanged heads eliminate direct contact between plastic and mating components. Slotted inserts compress to facilitate entry into mounting holes.

Straight Wall (IUTA, IUTB, IUTC)
These straight wall, through-threaded inserts are designed for use in straight holes. The insert's self-aligning lead-in provides precise alignment prior to installation. Straight-wall, through-thread inserts are available in a variety of materials including aluminum, brass and stainless steel.
