Threaded Inserts For Cork

Thread inserts are used to strengthen or repair threads in soft materials such as cork and allow the insertion of screws or bolts. They are designed to be installed with a press fit and come in three main types: thermoplastic, plastic and weldable. They are inserted into pre-tapped holes and then various anchors are used to hold them in place. The insert is designed to be larger in diameter than the threaded hole and compresses when installed to maximize surface contact with the threads.

Threaded inserts are suitable for softer materials such as aluminum and plastic, but are not strong enough to fasten stainless steel parts unless they have a special coating.
