Threaded Inserts Are Commonly Used

Plastic casings, casings, and parts to form metal threads (usually brass or stainless steel) for the use of screws in the assembly of many consumer electronics and products. These can be cast in injection molded parts or added through hot insertion. In the latter, the insert is heated and then pressed into the cavity of the plastic component. Heat causes localized melting of plastic. Ultrasonic insertion is the process of applying vibration and pressure to install threaded inserts into molded hollow bosses (holes) of plastic parts. Ultrasonic vibration melts the material in contact with the thermoplastic metal insert and applies pressure to press it into place. The material is usually re formed around the knurled body of the threaded insert to ensure good retention.
